In the last newsletter, I talked about how some people have regrets about the career they chose. But we really don’t need to have regrets; we just need to change our perspective to a more positive one that views past decisions as part of our unique history. Our future doesn’t not necessarily need to follow the path of our past decisions. I came across an image last week which visually illustrates this idea:
As you can see, we can look at the past and reflect on the results of our decisions. If you’d taken another path, you’d perhaps have a different outcome. But just because you made decisions in the past, it doesn’t mean your future is limited. In fact, looking at this map, there are unlimited possible paths you may take based on your decisions. The question then becomes, “What motivates your decisions?”
If your mindset is based in regret about your past, your decisions will be clouded by this negative energy. Conversely, if your mindset is optimistic about new possibilities, your decisions will help you see new opportunities and outcomes. That’s why working on your mindset is so important and why coaches spend so much time digging into your thoughts and motivations.
Once you’re consciously aware of the thoughts and feelings motivating your decisions, you can choose if you want to be motivated by fear or optimism. Fear or regret will lead you down a path of limited possibilities. Empowering thoughts will open up the map to unlimited potential paths.
Looking at the green map of the future, we can be encouraged that no matter what path we take, there are still further potential paths that will branch off. We’re never limited; with the right mindset we can create new pathways that better match evolving values or priorities.
As a conscious leader, consider how you can integrate this mindset into your outlook and your team’s outlook. It’s incredibly empowering to a leader and their team to see the wide potential on the right side of the map. While we do live with our decisions, they don’t need to limit our potential. Conscious leaders understand this truth and are able to motivate themselves and their teams to see unlimited possibilities.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
