What We Want in Leaders Now
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
The future of work and leadership is happening at an accelerated pace. This year has expedited many necessary changes long past due in how we work, relate and lead. And there’s new evidence that the public and employees prioritize conscious leadership qualities in their leaders.
Morning Consult recently conducted a survey to find out the top characteristics people want to see in their leaders. Unsurprisingly, the results show people value conscious leadership qualities above all else. They want leaders who are open-minded, communicative, fair, accountable and positive. While technical or hard skills are essential for executing a role, these soft skills are what actually cause people to respect you as a leader.
How aware are you of how people perceive your leadership?
Are you open-minded?
Are you perceived as positive?
Are you fair?
These are all qualities that you can and must develop if you want to be the leader of the future. The first step is becoming aware of the qualities you already possess and where you can develop yourself.
By working on yourself, you can embody these qualities. You’ll learn how to lead yourself and raise your own consciousness. And in doing so, you’ll attract quality talent to your team because they want to work with leaders who possess conscious leadership attributes.
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
An important aspect of being a conscious leader is being aware of your impact on others and their impact on you. TED recently posted a fantastic article about how our minds and bodies respond to those around. How self-aware are you about the words you speak to yourself or that others speak to you?
If you’re looking for 5 easy steps to help you lead a remote team and you like alliteration, PR Daily published a fun article for you this week. The author discusses the 4 E’s that enable a remote team to be successful: Encourage, Elaborate, Empower, and Evaluate.
Job search company Indeed recently conducted a survey of workers and found most said the adjustment to remote work was easier than they anticipated. While this is good news for the future of remote work and the freedom it provides to employees, conscious leaders need to be mindful of the struggles for some employees who are juggling kids at home, or who miss personal interaction. Moving forward, we can create a work/life balance that works for all.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
