Treat Yo Self, Care for Your Remote Teams, and 🐣🐥
A roundup of the latest remote work news and insights
This week we entered into April and what looks to be another long month of stay-at-home orders from local governments. This is certainly still a time of uncertainty for everyone. But there are glimmers of home amidst the gloom: families spending time together, people taking up long-abandoned hobbies, and time for reflection on what really matters.
I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what the world will look like once the immediate threat of the pandemic passes. There is so much opportunity for growth and change for the better—especially when it comes to conscious leadership and building durable remote teams. This past week I also started providing some video summaries of my newsletters since I know many people prefer to see video content. Please subscribe and share!
Here are some of the remote work/conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
PR Daily shares why it’s so important to treat employees well during the coronavirus crisis.
One key insight for me: The author reiterates pre-pandemic data that shows companies were already moving to remote teams. She makes the point that maintaining remote teams will help the economy recover more quickly since people won’t waste time or money commuting—and employers will be pleased with increased productivity.
Forbes explains why LinkedIn will help professionals in the time of mandatory social distancing
One key insight for me:To leverage LinkedIn for career development right now, make sure your “About” section will persuade potential clients to hire you.
This Parade columnist provided several helpful insights on working from home for beginners.
One key insight for me: Plan your distractions and maximize your productivity peaks. You know you want to check Tick-Tock, so go ahead and plan time in your day to treat yo self. And you may discover you’re most productive at certain times of day than others. Guard that time for your peak focus and productivity.
One key insight for me: “[P]olicies shouldn't be thought of as managing productivity, but more a set of guidelines and norms for people managing and working in a brand-new way." The article goes on to reflect the conscious leadership principle of focusing on outcomes rather than processes. Great advice for leaders who want to provide more conscious leadership to their teams during this tumultuous time and beyond.
On a lighter note, amidst all the panic-buying going on right now, here’s one surprising purchasing trend. 🐣🐥
Also, I found this beautiful poem about our current shared experience to be a lovely reminder of what we can create as a result of this time at home:
