Tired of the Tension in the World?
Conscious leadership can guide us through two conflicting realities
The other day I had a thought-provoking conversation with a friend about the sense of tension that seems to pervade all aspects of society and our lives right now. It’s not just a pandemic, or economic, or work-related. There is this sense of deep tension and division that currently undergirds everything.
During such times, this tension feels palpable—especially in the news and in our daily interactions. So what’s going on? Is it a good sign or a bad sign when we experience this strain?
Not long after that thought-provoking conversation, I came across a clip of Dr. Michael Beckwith, an inspiring spiritual teacher, sharing some keen insights about why we’re feeling this deep division. (You can watch the clip on my LinkedIn profile.)
Dr. Beckwith shares that the world is going through an elevation of consciousness. We’re experiencing two different paradigms at once. And when there are two diametrically opposed realities trying to co-exist in the same time, there is inevitable tension and division.
Conscious leaders are especially aware of this issue. We’re committed to changing the world for the better by creating more opportunity for all stakeholders. We’re changing the way we work and live so we can all experience abundance and fulfillment. We’re focused on elevating those around us so they can reach their highest potential.
But the old unconscious ways of doing business, of governing, of relating, are still trying to hold on. Thankfully, as Dr. Beckwith shares, there is a great awakening taking place. People are becoming aware of the authority of their own conviction. They no longer need to rely on big institutions to provide direction. It’s a return to true individual sovereignty.
Conscious leaders can help shepherd in this new paradigm by finding ways to empower themselves, their teams, and their communities.
As Dr. Beckwith notes, you won’t see any of this reported in the news because reporters are trapped in the old paradigm of conflict, scarcity, and fear. They are accurate when they report that many parts of social order no longer function. But what they fail to realize is that in order for the new paradigm to emerge, the old must break down.
So how can you help usher in a more conscious world and workplace? Start small: work on your own level of consciousness and commit to making changes in how you personally lead yourself and your team. We start by walking in the direction of where we want to go. Become aware of the thoughts you think and the impact they have on yourself and others.
Encourage your team members to replace fear with courage and creative thinking. If they could create a workplace or project that sparks real change in their industry or in their community, what would that look like? Think outside the old paradigms and explore new ways of doing things that in past may have seemed impossible. Encourage them to think empowering thoughts about what they want to create, not what they want to avoid.
For now, we need to embrace the sense of tension pervading the world. Because as old paradigms falls, conscious leaders have the opportunity to create new, empowering paradigms that will truly transform our world for the better.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
