Anyone else feel like the last year was a time warp? Nascent trends we thought would take another decade to go mainstream suddenly became the norm overnight. Thankfully, technology was able to rise to the many challenges we’ve experienced. And according to futurist Ray Kurzweil’s Law of Accelerating Returns, the next ten years of cultural change could get even more turbulent thanks to disruptive technologies.
So how can conscious leaders prepare themselves and their teams for these changes?
First, one of the best ways to prepare for change is to help create it. If old systems aren’t serving us anymore, let’s create something new that serves humanity better. Whether it’s technology, government, education, healthcare or industry, you and your team can tap into intuitive creativity and come up with ideas that can accelerate human flourishing.
Second, look around see what other experts are predicting. I recently read a great article about the CEO of Firstbase, Chris Herd, and his predictions for the next 10 years of remote work. Some of the concepts he share are completely in line with expanding conscious leadership in the workplace.
For example, Herd believes employees will be able to make life first, work second. That’s a significant cultural shift that benefits everyone. When we can live and work instead of working to live, we have more balance and opportunity to explore our creativity and passion projects.
Herd also thinks the way we work will shift. Instead of office politics and clocking hours, leaders will focus on outcomes. This requires a management shift towards trust and empowerment of employees. If you’re digitally spying on your team, or still expecting a 9-5 workday, you’ll be considered the relic of a (thankfully) bygone era. Conscious leaders trust and empower their teams to excel in ways that help the entire team thrive.
Another exciting, world-changing shift in work will be the attention to holistic wellbeing. As I’ve described in previous newsletters, the rise of the Chief Wellbeing Officer and nurturing employees beyond their basic RREs is the future. For too long, many professionals have sacrificed health, happiness, and personal growth just to climb a corporate ladder. As we create the future of work, the focus will be balance, and fostering environments where impact and creativity replace busywork.
The next decade will undoubtedly bring many opportunities and challenges. Those who develop their conscious leadership will be best equipped to recognize opportunity and position their teams to thrive. One of the reasons I love coaching is I get to work with the leaders and their teams who are courageously building this future. They envision a world with even more opportunity and abundance for all. It’s a future that can’t get here fast enough.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
