Skills for Mars: How to Prepare for the Future of Work 🚀
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
This year has changed so many aspects of how we do seemingly ordinary things. That includes how we network with others professionally. Networking and collaborating are important aspects of how we build our careers and develop ourselves professionally.
Many organizations have successfully made the digital leap to virtual events. In fact, one of the first virtual conferences I attended this year was Running Remote. They quickly adapted to the virtual format (unsurprising since they’re remote veterans!) and offered opportunities for professionals to connect.
One of the people I had the opportunity to connect with at the virtual event was Iulia Istrate, who hosts the Skills for Mars podcast. Iulia then invited me to join her podcast to talk about conscious leadership, building remote teams, and the future of work.

The podcast was just posted and I encourage you to listen to the ideas we discuss. We cover how to advance your career in a remote setting, how leadership is changing, and how to be a leader for a multicultural remote team. Iulia is a brilliant interviewer and conversationalist so I’m sure you’ll enjoy hearing about the skills you’ll need as humankind heads to Mars and the future of work.
If any of the topics discussed in the podcast resonate with you, let’s connect. Now is the right time to build your conscious leadership and a strong, thriving team.
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
Speaking of virtual networking, the New York Times just published an article on how to do it effectively. The author suggests making one new connection per week. One idea you can explore is a service I recently joined: LunchClub. The service connects you to other professionals for a quick networking lunch conversation.
Silicon Republic offers advice on how to make asynchronous communication work for your remote team. Many teams are still struggling with shifting to remote communication styles. From interviewing job candidates to building team camaraderie, there are some solid insights in this article.
Entrepreneur offers 7 aspects of remote work that we should keep doing even as teams return to offices. The way we work has changed. And it was beyond time for many aspects of work to change. So evaluate what worked well for your team virtually and what you should keep doing, including things like flexible work schedules and caring for employee wellbeing.
Burnout is a huge issue for many employees. Author Anne Helen Petersen believes empathy can help combat some of the issues that cause burnout. “Living in a society means that we are only as psychologically healthy as the most burnt-out among us.” Here are some articles she’s reading to expand her own consciousness about burnout issues.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
