A roundup of the latest remote work news and insights
I hope this weekâs newsletters have helped you navigate the remote work transition and learn some valuable tools for conscious leadership of your team. Perhaps youâre entering into your second or third week of being at home due to coronavirus (COVID-19). The good news is so many communities are serving each other (even if it is virtually!). One Redditor even put together a list of the many free resources online and free services companies are offering right now.
Here are some of the remote work/virtual teams content I found interesting this week:
·      Monday.com offers 6 reasons why remote teams are the future of work.
One key insight for me: Remote teams are an excellent way for entrepreneurs and small businesses to scale up at their own pace. Itâs a great way to try out talent and hire part-time freelancers before hiring full-time when youâre ready to.
·      Ars Technica had a remote team way before it was cool (1988) and theyâre offering advice for new remote teams.
One key insight for me: It makes a difference if your entire team is virtual. Itâs a bonding experience when everyone is remote. But if part of your team is virtual and part of it is in a central office, it lead to feeling left-out of the team sometimes. Something to guard against if youâre a hybrid team. They also recommend petting your cat as you work at home. đ»
·      Monday.com shares 7 best practices for managing a remote team.
One key insight for me: âCisco reported an annual savings of $277 million in productivity because of remote employees. According to the same survey, 69% of employees said they had higher productivity when working remotely.â
·      This Los Angeles Times reporter shares how âawesomeâ working from home isâespecially the time for cooking gourmet meals instead of sitting in commute traffic.
One key insight for me: âTeleconferencing and video calls are not the future. They are the present.â She also shares best practices on how to prepare yourself for media hits or important video meetings while working from home.
·      The New York Times offers some techie advice for working from home.
One key insight for me: When you have issues with your internet speed due to such a strain on broadband right now, you can jump to your cell phone as a backup. Cell networks are designed to handle larger amounts of users. Â
This fascinating article also shows how coronavirus is creating an unprecedented use of internet around the world. Itâs putting a strain on broadbandâand growing internet usage much faster than providers anticipated.
The conversation about remote work continues to shift towards greater acceptance and embracing this work of the future. Itâs exciting to be part of that shift and how it will fundamentally change for the better the way we all live and work.
I will soon be launching a training series for employers and employees to hone their remote work skills and bring more conscious leadership to work.
Stay posted for these exciting and timely new courses!Â
