Ready for the Virtual Reality Workplace?
Virtual and augmented reality will quickly change how and where we work
The last year has shown employers and employees that how and where we work needed a shakeup. What we’ve all realized is due to technological advances and opening our minds to new ways of doing things, we can be just as effective working outside of the outdated office model.
Many people I talked to who were initially resistant to working remotely now excitedly share with me how they’re planning a 3-week work-cation in the mountains or at the beach. They’re thrilled with their newfound freedom and how much it improves their quality of life.
The ability to work remotely is a wonderful advancement for the world. However, there are some aspects of remote work that we will continue to develop. One tool that’s creating a lot of buzz is virtual reality in the workplace. The predictions for how VR and AR (augmented reality) will enhance our work are mind-blowing.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg recently hopped on new social media platform Clubhouse to share how he envisions virtual reality changing the world: “One of the things that VR will unlock is the ability to live anywhere you want and be present in another place and really feel like you are there. It is going to unlock a lot of economic opportunity because people will be able to live where they want and increasingly work where they want and kind of teleport into place.”
The Wall Street Journal also recently covered how many companies are rushing in to the marketplace with new virtual platforms that help teams feel like they are collaborating in a virtual workplace. Imagine the ability to “walk” around your organization’s office while sitting in a cabin in Colorado or on a beach in Cancun. Virtual reality is also helping us travel during lockdowns. There are so many possibilities for this technology and how it can provide more freedom and opportunity.
Conscious leaders are especially interested in technologies like VR because it helps them empower their team to create fulfilling work and life. We can create work with so much more meaning than commuting to an office 5 days a week, confined to a specific geographic location.
How are you planning to leverage new technologies like VR?
Are you looking for ways to continually invest in your team’s development?
Do you help your team members reach for their goals and create meaningful lives?
The next decade is going to bring so much change and advancement in the workplace. You can start preparing yourself and your team by investing in coaching and becoming the conscious leaders who will change for the better the way we work, live and BE.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
