Patience is a Virtue—And Essential for the Future of Work ⏳⏱
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
Conscious leadership is all about self-development and creating a workplace and world that works for everyone. One of the essential attributes of a conscious leader is patience. It’s a quality that is often sorely lacking in the current workplace. By developing your own patience as a conscious leader, you’ll be amazed how you and your team will flourish and actually achieve results faster.
I’ll confess that learning patience is perhaps the cardinal struggle of my life.
My entire life I’ve struggled with being impatient. Whether it was graduating college, starting my career, getting married, or achieving a variety of other key goals, I’ve always felt impatient about getting to the goal. Being impatient takes me out of the present moment and the possibilities each moment presents. Instead, I’m constantly living in a future I anticipate and agonize over. My internal conflict reminds me of the Beatles lyric: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
Practicing mindfulness has been a huge help in getting me centered back on enjoying the journey, not just the planned destination. And also learning that while it’s important to have dreams and work towards them, it’s equally important to be open to different paths that get you to the desired feelings and experiences those goals really signify.
Research has shown that when leaders demonstrate patience with their teams, the team’s creativity increases by 16% and productivity by 13%. As a conscious leaders, your level of patience directly correlates with your team’s success. That’s a powerful reminder of how critical it is to continually develop your own self-awareness and growth, because it impacts everyone around you.
Coaching is a fantastic way to explore your current levels of patience and develop even more patience with yourself and your team. If you’re ready to be a powerful, patient leader for yourself and your team, let’s connect. I’ll be patiently awaiting your email or call. 😁
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
The workplace is ready for conscious leadership, and I recently penned a column for One Idea Away, where I shared about this trend. In the column I define conscious leadership and then explore how conscious leadership is both an external and internal aspects of this powerful, transformative leadership style.
Inc.com featured an excellent post about the worst approach to remote work. The author describes how using technology to monitor employees conveys mistrust and perpetuates the myth that hours-spent-at desk = productivity. As I wrote about in a past newsletter, conscious leaders don’t need to spy on their teams.
BambooHR recently released its “Bad Boss Index.” It’s a list of some of the horrifying things many employees have to deal with in a workplace that lacks conscious leadership. In fact, if you’d like to know the opposite of conscious leadership, just read through the list. Coaching is a powerful way to help teams break through “Bad Boss” environments and create workplaces where everyone can thrive together.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
