It’s Time to Reinvent Yourself as the Leader of the Future
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
It’s undeniable that 2020 is not only a year of clear vision, it’s a year of transformative change. As the way we work changes, so too does the leadership we need and expect. I believe conscious leaders will be in increasingly high demand for companies and organizations that want to excel into the future of work.
PR Daily posted an excellent article this week by Edward Hess who also believes we’re going through an evolution for leaders and it’s necessary for us all to adapt. In the article, Hess shares 7 “old school” workplace strengths that are now considered weaknesses.
In fact, the antiquated leadership characteristics he outlines describe the opposite of a conscious leader: command-and-control focused, motivation by fear, ego-driven, pitting employees against each other, the need to be right, no work-life balance, and lack of humility required for constant learning.
As Hess astutely observes,“ We must all be able to continuously learn, unlearn and relearn by adapting to the reality of the world as it evolves.” That means growing your conscious leadership.
Even if you don’t consider yourself a conscious leader yet, you can begin working on yourself right now. The world is changing quickly, and you can be part of the evolution that will empower us to all work, live and BE happy.
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
PR Daily shared 5 ways to unleash your employees’ inner rock stars. It’s a fantastic list of recommendations from Chief Communications Officer Shira Miller. Conscious leaders will resonate with her advice on building up your team by recognizing their talents and helping them reach their dreams.
Harvard Business Review explored why some people get burned out and others don’t. Increased emotional intelligence (EI) is essential for avoiding burnout. High EI is also the hallmark of a conscious leader. The more we can become aware of our emotions, the better leadership we can provide for ourself and for others.
Dropbox believes virtual first companies are the future of work. The technology company will provide offices space for what it should really be used for: strategic planning, collaboration and team building. It will also offer stipends for those who want individual work space. It’s an encouraging trend to see so many companies providing this kind of flexibility for their teams.
NPR reported on Zoom fatigue and the desire for many to have in-person collaboration. It’s important to remember that while technology empowers flexible work, it doesn’t replace in-person collaboration. The remote work we’re experiencing during a pandemic isn’t how remote work will look in the future when we can balance working outside an office with in-person meetings.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
