For the last week I’ve been getting a lesson on gratitude, going with the flow, and accepting what is.
Our floors were recently damaged by a washing machine leak and we needed to repair them. So we hired a contractor to replace the flooring and they started last Monday. What was estimated to be a four-day project is now turning into two weeks.
So my husband, one-year-old, and I are crashing at a friend’s house and hoping we will be back in our home by Christmas. That’s why I didn’t get my newsletter out last week. It’s been quite unsettling to be displaced (especially with a toddler) for such a long time.
Maybe it’s being out of our home during this special time of year, or all the uncertainty about when we can return, but it made me pause this week and truly appreciate our home. We spend most of our time there. Both my husband and I work from home. So it really is the center of our lives.
It’s strange to know our home is just 15 minutes away and I can go inside it, but I can’t live there right now because it’s a construction zone. Once we return, I’m going to have a whole new appreciation for not just having a home, but everything it means to my family and our wellbeing.
This week I’ve also had to do something I’m not the best at: go with the flow and accept what is. I’m a big planner, so when I have the expectation something will go according to plan and then it doesn’t, it triggers some rather negative emotions. I feel frustrated, disappointed, and irritated. It’s easy to start finding fault with others and myself when plans change unexpectedly.
I know that accepting what is and just going with the flow will decrease these pessimistic thoughts and emotions, but it’s not always easy. The year 2022 is ending with one big final opportunity for me to learn to practice gratitude, accept what is, and go with the flow.
I hope that as the year ends and we enter the holiday season, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the lessons you learned this year and how you can apply them in 2023. Every day we each have the opportunity to become more conscious leaders and BE the change we want to see in the world. I look forward to continuing this journey with you when the new year begins.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.

P.S. If you’re looking for a charity to support this holiday season, please consider Motherhood Beyond Bars. This nonprofit assists incarcerated women who are pregnant by supporting them through the pregnancy and birth, and gives supplies to those who care for the child while the mother serves her time.
I had the opportunity to assist its founder, Amy Ard, in creating a plan to expand her reach and impact in Georgia. As a new mom, this charity is especially close to my heart. I can’t imagine having a baby and then handing it off to someone who may not have the resources to care for my child. You can help these children born into unfortunate circumstances by supporting Motherhood Beyond Bars.
The way we work and build teams is rapidly changing. Leaders often feel unprepared to navigate the transition. As a conscious leadership coach, consultant and communicator, Meredith helps leaders and their teams create new ways of working and relating so they can prepare for the future by consciously co-creating it.
