End of Life Regrets, Finding Positivity, and Thoughtful Working
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
I recently shared how I believe the Chief Wellbeing Officer position will become an important role in the future of work. As we continue to transform how we work, live, relate, communicate, and build community, providing for the wellbeing of our teams and loved ones will become increasingly important. This week Ragan published a fascinating article on how examining end-of-life lessons could inform wellbeing programs to create more meaningful workplace environments.
The article goes through the five major regrets people have at the end of their life and how employers can help their teams avoid these regrets by implementing wellness programs that serve the employee as a whole person. Some of the regrets include not being their true selves, not expressing how they feel, or simply working too much.
The article truly resonated with me because it drew a clear link between how much time we spend at work during the majority of our life, the regrets we feel at the end, and how employers can help prevent those regrets from occurring.
What an inspiring, humbling thing to consider as an employer. It’s not just about creating a job and turning a profit. It’s about providing the opportunity to help people live a life without regrets. That’s far more than just a business. That’s service to humankind.
When you consider your workplace from that perspective, it makes work and what you offer your teams so much more significant in the broader scope of life. As a conscious leader, how will you help your teammates live a life without regrets? How will you empower them to reach their dreams? What programs and services can you provide that can literally change lives?
If you’re ready to be the kind of leader who wants to create a legacy of impact for yourself, your team and your organization, let’s connect. You can help create the work revolution where work becomes far more than a paycheck. The world is ready and waiting for conscious leaders who will step up and create this awesome future.
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
Forbes published an article about finding positivity in the new way of work. The author mostly focuses on how HR and recruiters can now experiment and try new ways of doing their work due to the workplace paradigm shift. But the key takeaway for conscious leaders is to reframe your mindset for yourself and your team. You can shift from viewing things as a challenge to an opportunity.
Refinery29 examined what kind of home utilities and expenses employers should cover for remote workers. Remote work is here to stay and will continue to grow and evolve. As a conscious leader, you can stay ahead of the curve by implementing generous stipends and reimbursements for your team. Empower them with the right tools and make sure your company takes care of its employees’ needs.
The Atlantic considers what the workforce will look like in the future due to the pandemic. The term “telepresence” is introduced to describe how people will be more homebound for work and entertainment. Travel, hospitality and entertainment industries will be the hardest hit. The at-home autonomy many will start to enjoy could lead to more entrepreneurship. Consider this interesting observation from the author: “The plague is not an inventor. It is a time machine, pulling us forward into a future that was, perhaps, already on its way.”
Fast Company challenged leaders to consider a more thoughtful work-from-home strategy for their teams. The author encourages leaders to shift to a “thoughtful working” strategy. “Thoughtful working shifts the focus to results (not time spent), strategy (not tactics), and effectiveness (not “busyness”).” This is exactly what conscious leaders do: they focus on outcomes and providing their teams with the flexibility and resources necessary to achieve those outcomes.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
