Conscious Leadership and Politics
Now more than ever we need leaders who prioritize true human flourishing
This week the Democratic Party hosts its presidential nominating convention. The Republican Party will follow suit next week with its own virtual convention. These political party conventions occur every four years and are often viewed as the opportunity for each party to share its vision for the United States heading into presidential elections.
I have a personal history with these conventions since I started working in politics back in 1995. I attended the 1996 Republican National Convention as a youth delegate and the 2008 Republican National Convention as a guest of the California delegation. From my experience, these events are like any other industry conference: lots of parties, drinks, networking, and deal-making. Political conventions also have the added circus-like component of national media attention.
For many years I sincerely believed that political persuasion was the way to change the world and create a fairer society for all. But as my level of consciousness has risen, I’ve realized that true impact comes from working on ourselves and then sharing that light with others. Like so many others in the world, I also became disillusioned with the politicians who made promises they never kept once elected.
If you decide to tune in and watch the national conventions over the next two weeks, I encourage you to look for the conscious leaders. Unfortunately, they are hard to find in politics right now. The raw power and influence of politics seems to draw those with the biggest egos, who then leverage their position for feeding the ego. It’s rare to find a conscious leader who genuinely puts aside personal interests for the good of all.
Just like in the business world, the political world desperately needs conscious leaders. Leaders who don’t view the world as us versus them. Leaders who prioritize helping all people over helping themselves and their friends. Leaders who can see beyond the current system and want to build new structures that genuinely serve.
Ultimately, if we really want to see political change, we must BE the change we want to see in the world. That means we’re each called to become conscious leaders.

In this election year, consider how you can become the change you want to see in society by working on your own level of consciousness and becoming a leader who serves. When you’re ready to become a conscious leader and the best version of yourself, let’s connect.
While voting and political change is important, the most encouraging thing about becoming the change you want to see in the world is that you can and will make a difference, regardless of who is elected. We the people have that power already. Are you ready to embrace it?
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
