Avoid WFH burnout, crush a remote presentation, and the beauty of conscious leadership
A roundup of the latest remote work news and insights
Another week has come and gone and it seems like while most of the world is adjusting to this new way of living, there are still many things that feel abnormal. This week my husband and I did something normal, but new for us: we became foster parents for an adorable puppy. (If you live in the Austin area and want to add this precious guy to your family, let me know!) There is comfort in knowing that some things in life that bring us such joy—like holding a new puppy—still carry on as normal.
I hope this week you will be able to experience something seemingly mundane that brings you comfort and joy. Watch a sunset, cuddle a puppy, take a nap in the grass. It’s all part of being mindful of the important things in life and raising our consciousness to realize we’re all one.
Here are some of the remote work/conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
Harvard Business Review offers 3 tips for avoiding burnout while working from home.
One key insight for me: Use out-of-office messages to let your team know which parts of the day you need to focus or take care of your family. It almost goes without saying, but focus on priorities and minimize busy work. As a conscious leader, help your team prioritize and establish parameters so they don’t feel “on” all the time.
Skill Crush covers the basics of giving a remote presentation without feeling awkward.
One key insight for me: An in-person presentation provides the opportunity to connect with attendees. Figure out a way to make a meaningful connection with attendees in a virtual setting. And read the body language of your attendees during the meeting to take cues about how things are going.
One key insight for me: This reporter shares why white noise apps helped him focus on work at home with lots of distraction from his neighbors. Your work environment matters—especially distractions. So while working from home, find a white noise or music that can help you concentrate.
Inc.com provides advice on how to encourage and engage your remote team right now.
One key insight for me: Lead with a people-first mindset and personalize your message. These are both things a conscious leader does. It’s all about the people and connection. It’s what will build a stronger team.
This week I came across this lovely article on Thrive Global that describes the 9 attributes of a conscious leader. It’s an inspiring summary of the kind of leadership that is emerging through this crisis. This is the leadership for which we yearn. It’s exciting to be part of this transition to a world where we all consciously lead and create a better workplace and society that truly values everyone.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
