Are You Really Happy? π
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
Less than two weeks ago tech entrepreneur Tony Hseih passed away tragically in a fire at the Connecticut home where he was staying. When I heard the news, I was deeply saddened because I have appreciated the conscious leadership values Tony advocated in his company Zappos.com and through his speaking and writing.
He was known for focusing on happiness, passion and purposeβall three things I deeply believe we need more of in life and work. As Hseih told Forbes in 2018,β Chase the vision. The money and profits will come.β He was deeply committed to changing the way we view work and how we can all derive more happiness from following our passion and purpose.
But apparently Hseih was struggling to find the very thing he wanted so badly for the world. According to recent reports, Hseihβs life had unraveled in 2020, which may have contributed to his untimely death. Itβs a sober reminder that all of us must do our own shadow work. Even the most innovative leaders struggle with things that hinder their personal growth.
Finding balance and committing to self-care is essential in order to grow our consciousness. If we focus too much on the outward success, we miss out on the inner development that truly brings happiness and a different kind of more deeply meaningful success.
We never know the struggles of those around us. Itβs important to show compassion. And itβs important to constantly be working on ourselves so that we can raise the consciousness of the planet. The world needs visionary leaders like Tony Hseih, but we also need those leaders to continue doing the deep work so their light can continue to shine.
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
Fast Company posted an article about why leaders must pay attention to the wellness of their workers. The future of work includes looking holistically at the workforce and what help us truly thrive. Itβs more than just a paycheck and a gym membership.
Fast Company also asked, whatβs your teamβs remote work style? Each of us has a unique way we approach our communication on a virtual team. Determining how each team member prefers to work and relate virtually will help your team thrive.
PR Daily offered advice on how to retain talent in a virtual workplace. The key here is individualization. Each team member is unique. Find what motivates and rewards them, then make sure you consistently provide quality opportunities for them.
Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute shared why self-compassion is an essential leadership skill. Self-compassion isnβt about being soft or lacking ambition. Itβs about resilience, optimism, and the ability to courageously take risks.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
