Adapting to Change Is Challenging
A weekly roundup of the latest future of work and conscious leadership news and insights
If there’s one thing we’ve all been forced to embrace over the last year, it’s the importance of adapting to change. It’s true the only constant in life is change. We can go long stretches where nothing seems to change, but then suddenly seismic changes happen in short bursts and everything feels different.
The U.S. is going through huge change right now, with much more upheaval than most have ever experienced. One thing we can do to help calm the tumult in this country and around the globe is focusing on our own internal wellbeing and then serving others.
Conscious leadership means going deep and examining the beliefs and actions we’ve embraced because “this is the way it is.” But believing or doing things because they are part of an entrenched system actually hinders necessary change. Once we bring to our awareness these beliefs, we can start addressing them individually and collectively as a society.
While our core values endure, the way in which we do things can and should change if they are rooted in systems that no longer serve us or our communities. Learning how to gracefully accept change is a conscious leadership quality we can all continually develop.
What are some ways you’ve learned to adapt to the immense changes happening in the world right now?
What can you share with others?
How can you share your internal peace with those who are struggling with change and uncertainty?
For me, having a long term perspective has been hugely helpful. Instead of getting caught up in the melodrama promoted through media, I focus on the things I can do to help make myself, my family, and my community better. I can be aware of what’s happening without engaging in the emotionally-charged drama.
If we start small in learning to adjust to change, it will have an impact that ripples through the world. The more we learn to get comfortable with change—and even embrace it—the more freedom and joy we will experience regardless of the circumstances.
Here is some of the future of work and conscious leadership content I found interesting this week:
Nearly 30% of employees say they will quit if they are required to return to an office. This isn’t a surprising statistic because once employees taste the freedom of a flexible work schedule and remote work, why would they return to a commute and office work again? This is not just a trend; it’s the future of work.
Investing in the future of work and WFH now means more than just buying a new desk chair for your home office. You can now use the money you’re saving on your daily commute and business clothes to invest in the Direxion Work from Home EFT. According to Palm Beach Research Group, the fund was launched in June 2020 and has already gained 36.1%.
New Pew research shows how each employee is experiencing WFH challenges differently. For young people, it’s the lack of interaction that generates motivation, and could lead to career growth or relationships. For older employees, it’s juggling family while working from home. Leaders will benefit from recognizing the unique needs of each and addressing each unique situation based on that employee’s specific needs. Also, there’s no evidence of “Zoom fatigue.”
The Harris Poll released a recent survey that found many people feel they are better off today than they were before the pandemic hit. Depending on the industry, many employees are actually thriving through this period of immense change.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
