One of the biggest challenges many leaders face is a scarcity mentality. It seems pervasive in every aspect of society. There’s a tendency to focus on what is and how things are currently done instead of thinking about what could be and how we can create abundance and opportunity for all.
Another way of looking at this is many institutions, leaders, and people focus on a playing a finite game. They think there will always be finite resources and in order for someone to win, someone else has to lose.
But what if we adopted an abundance mindset that focused on playing an infinite game? In an infinite game, there are no winners or losers. The focus is on continuing the game for generations and doing so in a way where as many people as possible can benefit.
One of the key tenets of conscious leadership is looking for a win-win-win in every scenario and seeking ways to ensure as many stakeholders as possible are benefited. This requires conscious leaders to be lifelong learners and possess a growth mindset; always willing to think about what could be, not just what currently is.
Take a moment to reflect on your own mindset:
Do you have a scarcity or abundance mentality?
Do you have a fixed or growth mindset?
Do you want to play an infinite game or are you caught up in a finite game?
How do these various lenses through which you view the world affect you and your team?
Even if you aren’t working with a coach right now, you can engage in this type of reflection and growth on your own on a regular basis. A recent study found that a brief morning reflection on the type of leader you want to be can yield significant results. Contemplating how you want to show up as a leader and what leadership quality you want to work on sets your goals for the rest of the day.
You can 10X your growth as a conscious leader by engaging in this simple exercise every day. Here’s how the book Conscious Leadership describes this powerful practice:
When you wake up in the morning, before you get into the rote activities of the day, take a few minutes and think to yourself:
How can I 10X my thinking right now?
What would it mean to think much bigger about our work, our organization, about everything we’re doing?
How can I raise my leadership game to another level?
What is the farthest impact of our action?
In that fresh, creative, open-minded awareness that exists just after waking, and before the demands of your daily schedule come rushing into awareness, can you bring a heightened level of consciousness to your leadership approach? Can you take a creative mental leap? Consider starting your day by 10X-ing your mind.
As conscious leaders committed to our growth and the growth our teams, this a wonderful practice to begin. You’ll be surprised and excited by how your consciousness begins to exist in a space of abundance, infinity and exponential opportunity and growth.
Work happy. Live happy. BE happy.
